Chautauqua Gran Fondo Donates $15,000 to Local Charities

The 4th annual Chautauqua Gran Fondo was held on August 25, 2018, at Webb’s Resort in Mayville, New York. The event, hosted by the Chautauqua Region Economic Development Corporation (CREDC), is a charity cycling event that benefits local non-profit organizations while promoting health and wellbeing for riders at any skill level.  This year’s event brought in nearly 400 riders, who came from all over the region. In fact, approximately 70% of the riders traveled from outside of Chautauqua County to participate.

Riders at this year’s event had the opportunity to enjoy the scenery of Chautauqua Lake and its rich history on one of 3 scenic routes, each of varying distances. At the conclusion of the cycling portion of the event, riders were treated to a family-friendly celebration at Webb’s Resort, which featured lunch, refreshments, and live music. The event was sponsored by Lake Shore Savings, the Matric Group, 59LUCYLANE.COM, Webb’s Captain’s Table Restaurant, and many more.

Most importantly, this year’s event raised $15,000 to benefit local charities, which include the Rosemary “Rosie” Billquist Memorial Fund, The Rapaport Fund for Breast Cancer Patients and Equipment, The Crèche, Inc., and the Chautauqua Lake Community Sailing Foundation.

Updated Routes! The Stow Ferry is Under Repair

We apologize. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to adjust our plans for the upcoming Chautauqua Gran Fondo. We know many cyclists train for this event, so we held onto hope as long as we could. However, the Stow Ferry will not be operating by event time, so we created some other options for our riders.
While we are saddened by not being able to use the ferry this year, we are comforted that it’s getting the repairs it needs to be a safe attraction for years to come. In the meantime, this change of plans gives us the opportunity to showcase another awesome area attraction: the Chautauqua Children’s Safety Education Village!

Here are the Updated Routes!

Due to route changes, we have retired the 38-mile course for the this year and will be operating three courses instead. Here is a link to a page that features all of the routes of the 2018 Chautauqua Gran Fondo. Each route has undergone improvement, so please examine your chosen route carefully. Here are links to the Ride with GPS for each of the 2018 routes:

Don’t worry… We’re still planning a pretty incredible event for you!!

A Fresh Start to be Featured in Vendor Village

(JAMESTOWN, NY) — The third-annual Chautauqua Gran Fondo is set for Aug. 26, 2017 at Webb’s Resort in Mayville, NY. The mission of the event is to promote health and well being for cyclists of all skill levels while raising funds and awareness for local charities.

Among the local organizations to be featured in Vendor Village at this years event include A Fresh Start (AFS), a local non-profit committed to making a difference in our community. Bringing awareness and support to those trying to escape addiction, this organization was formed in the wake of a tragedy. Alex Foulk, a beloved member in the Jamestown area, lost his battle with addiction in 2016. With the rapid increase of substance abuse in the area, AFS was formed out of the duty to help support community members facing similar addictions.

To assist with transitional housing in this community, the founders of A Fresh Start have joined forces with the Buffalo/Niagara Oxford Houses to open a chapter in Jamestown and in February 2017, The Alex House was created. An Oxford House is a home that recovering individuals reside featuring an environment supportive of recovery from addiction. Each house is self-run and self-supported following a standardized system of democratic operation.

A Fresh Start meets every Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 410 E. Fourth St., Jamestown.  For more information visit or find them on Facebook.

These Gran Fondo style events have varied distances and degrees of difficulty, making them accessible to beginners and families as well as attractive to experienced cyclists who are looking for a challenge.

What is a Gran Fondo?

A Gran Fondo or a “party on wheels,” has become an increasingly popular way to raise funds and awareness for local charitable organizations. The rides are also popular because they are fully supported by bike mechanics who to assist with flat tires and other minor mechanical glitches. Food, drink and pep talks are also provided at rest stops throughout the course.
